Save the date for the next Young with MS Happy Hour on September 18

If you’re in your 20s or 30s, kick back with us at one of Philly's favorite spots, The Field House, near the world famous Reading Terminal. Meet other people your age who are living with MS at this casual event.

Arrive at 6 p.m. to hear job tips from a human resources manager, including job search and employment guidance. If you can't make it by 6 p.m., join us after 6:45 p.m. for happy hour. You can bring one buddy, but everyone must be 21 or older. Click here to save your spot.

                                                         

Don't miss MS Service Day on October 26

The next MS Service Day is taking place on Saturday, October 26 in the Camden and Gloucester counties of southern New Jersey. Click here for information about how to apply for help with yard work, cleaning gutters, power washing, painting, or other projects. The deadline to submit your application and photos of your project is Saturday, September 14. If you have any questions, please contact Pat Thieringer or Mollie Burns at (215) 271-1500.

Kessler Foundation - MS and Employment

Kessler Foundation logo.jpgAre you gainfully employed? Are you thinking of leaving the workforce or feeling as if you need to cut back hours because of your MS? If so, researchers at the Kessler Foundation want to hear from you. They are interested in learning more about the factors associated with employment decisions in MS.

Individuals who are gainfully employed OR those considering leaving the workforce or feeling as if they need to cut back on hours are eligible to participate. All participants will complete an online survey asking about their work status and various factors thought to be related to managing one’s MS and ability to work. Participants will be compensated for their participation.

To be eligible, participants must be:

  • between the ages of 20 and 64
  • diagnosed with definite MS
  • have no other neurological illness

Ryerson University - Dating Among Single Women with MS

Ryerson University is conducting a study to understand the impact of MS in the formation and quality of dating relationships among single women.

To be eligible, participants must:

  1. be 20 to 40 years-of-age or 50 to 65 years-of-age
  2. have been diagnosed with MS for at least 6 months
  3. self-identify as presently single
  4. be fluent in English
  5. be female

Participants can expect:

  1. a short phone call to make sure that you are eligible
  2. to complete a 45-60 minute paper survey in their own home at their convenience about how MS has impacted their dating experiences, beliefs about relationships, and self-image

National Disability Institute (NDI) Financial Webinar Series

The NDI is hosting a six part monthly webinar series focusing on important financial wellness topics for persons with disabilities. The second webinar took place on August 21 and was titled 'Your Home - Owning, Refinancing and Modifying'. The recording and live captioning transcript for this webinar will be available on their website soon.

September 3, 10 and 17 - Newly Diagnosed Teleconference Series
If you've recently been given a diagnosis of MS, you probably have a lot of questions and concerns. Or, you may be feeling so overwhelmed by the diagnosis that you aren’t sure what kinds of questions to ask. Sign up for one or more of the teleconferences in this series to hear useful information directly from experts in the field. Learn more.

September 5 - MS 101 Telephone Support Group
If you're newly diagnosed, join us from the comfort of your own home for this educational series and support group. Topics include symptoms and treatment options, fatigue management and effects on the family. Led by Lamar Freed, PsyD, the group will meet on the first Thursday of each month from 7 to 8 p.m. Learn more.

September 7 - How to Communicate Effectively with your Doctor about Managing your MS
You and a guest are invited to the Ventnor Branch Library from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. to learn how to make the most of your doctor's appointments. Dr. Jaime Imitola will address how to best discuss all aspects of managing your MS, including treatment options, symptom management, and even employment. Learn more.

September 21 and 22 - Bike MS: Bike to the Bay
The Delaware Chapter's 30th annual Bike to the Bay event is a two-day cycling adventure that will take you through some of the most scenic paths in the state all the way to the coastline. Learn more.  

September 25 - Ask the Employment Specialist: Telephone Question and Answer Session
If you have questions about employment and MS, join us from 12 to 1 p.m. to hear from two National MS Society employment specialists. This is a great way to learn about workplace disclosure, social security disability benefits, accommodations, returning to work, and more. Learn more.

September 28 and 29 - Bike MS: City to Shore Ride
7,000 cyclists are gearing up to ride through some of the most picturesque routes in New Jersey to make a difference in the fight against MS. Get involved as a cyclist or volunteer at MSCycling.org.

October 12 - Progressive MS: The Road Ahead
If you're living with Progressive MS, join us at DeSales University in Center Valley, PA from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. for this educational event and resource fair. MS experts will discuss 'Strengthening Family Resilience' and 'Research Avenues for Progressive MS'. Learn more.

October 17 - The Right Notes: Wine Tasting and Jazz Event
Don't miss The Right Notes, presented by the National MS Society and the Somers Point Jazz Society. Reserve your tickets now for an evening of superb wine, philanthropy, and great music from renowned tenor saxophonist Dr. Michael Pedicin and his quartet. We're also planning an exciting charity golf event beginning at 1 p.m. Learn more.

October 19 - What's right for me? The latest in MS treatments and resources
Join us at the Centerton Country Club and Event Center in Pittsgrove, N.J. to learn more about MS treatments and research and find out how to address some of the daily challenges of living with MS. Taking place from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., the event features a presentation by Dr. Donald Barone, MS Neurologist at Rowan University, and an accompanying resource fair. Learn more.
