LINKS Teleconference Series

We are pleased to present a series of teleconferences for clients with MS and their families entitled "LINKS." Whether you just received a diagnosis of MS or have been living with it for a long time--the goal of this series is to "link" you with information and tips on how to maintain your quality of life in the years ahead.

The series is made up of nine teleconferences held Tuesday nights (7-8 pm) from April 2 through May 28, 2013.

Each teleconference lasts just one hour and is accessible via a toll-free number. You can ask questions or just listen to the information. Best of all, you can do so from the privacy of your own home. Participate in several calls or just the one that interests you.

Clinical Trials & Progress in MS Research

Clinical trials help to determine if a drug is safe and effective. Those with MS who are willing to volunteer in these studies make it possible for all of us to look forward to new and better therapies. However, there are essential questions you should ask yourself before participating. Join us on the this call as we discuss the basics of clinical trials, as well as current MS research on treatment to stop disease progression, restore function, and end MS forever.

Guest Speaker: Dr. Ellen Mowry became interested in multiple sclerosis (MS) prior to beginning college and first performed research in MS as an undergraduate biology major at Georgetown University. As a neurology resident at the University of Pennsylvania, she progressed to MS clinical research activities and conducted a study of visual dysfunction and quality of life in MS. Then as a fellow at the University of California, San Francisco, Dr. Mowry evaluated prognostic factors in MS and examined health-related quality of life in MS, particularly as a marker of disease burden. Dr. Mowry continued as a member of the faculty. She explored the association of vitamin D status with the risk of relapses among children with MS and was subsequently awarded a grant from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to study the role of vitamin D in the course of MS.  Dr. Mowry joined the Johns Hopkins Department of Neurology as an Assistant Professor in July of 2011. In addition to ongoing studies, she is the Principal Investigator of a National MS Society-sponsored multicenter randomized controlled trial of vitamin D supplementation in MS.

The registration deadline for this call is May 23, 2013.
